Verses of the Day:
(Younger Students)
For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. – Proverbs 3:24
(Older Students)
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Did You Know?
- Egyptian homes were made from bricks of sun-dried mud, called adobe, because wood was scarce. Mud bricks lasted along time in Egypt because there was so little rain to wear them away.
- In the cities, a commoner’s home was often 2-3 levels to make use of the limited land. The lower floor was often reserved for business and the family lived on the upper floors. Wealthy families, like Potiphar, however would have had large single level homes which they surrounded with private, beautiful gardens full of palm trees and flowers.
- The most common piece of furniture in Potiphar’s home would have been the stool. They had very short legs, sometimes carved, and could easily be moved from room to room.
- In the courtyard of the wealthy, there was often a water clock. It was made from a clay pot and had a small hole in the bottom. It had lines that were marked on the inside. Time was measured against these levels as the water dripped out through the bottom.
- Most wealthy people had bathrooms. Often each bedroom would have its own toilet. You would have a stone seat with a hole in it. Underneath the seat would be a large urn filled with sand. The lower servants would be responsible for emptying the pot.
- You would have had a pet. Cats were the favorite pet. Other pets include geese, goats and baboons, and the wealthy, like Potiphar, would have had dogs used for hunting. When a pet died, the owner would save its collar, and later when the owner died, the collar would be buried with them, so that the family and their pet could be together.
God’s Promise to You: “I will always protect you.”

Letter to the Editor:
Dear God,
I got in big trouble today. I was playing with my brother’s kite… yes, I didn’t ask… and before I knew it, the string had slipped out of my hand. When my mom asked me about it, I lied and said I had no idea what had happened to the kite. I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway… then I lied about it! How can I keep from doing the wrong thing?
Signed,
Your Child

Dear Child,
My enemy Satan would like nothing better than to catch you, my dear child, in a trap. But his traps are painful and dangerous. I always have a way out prepared for you. Talk to me. I am the only one who can help you out of Satan’s traps. Remember my Son, Jesus, has already won the battle with Satan on the cross.
Love,
God

God’s Promise to You: “I will provide a way of escape.”
Talking It Over:
Today Joseph got into big trouble, and it wasn’t even his fault. In fact, he was thrown in jail for doing the right thing. But God was there protecting him and helping him. Have your child quote today’s Bible verse for you and then tell you part 2 of Joseph’s story!
